About Me

Who is LEPhotography?

Lyle Engleson

Photographer

One man with a lot of experience

I have been photographing coins for over 20 years. I have photographed 100’s of thousands of coins in my career from $1 in value to over $12 million. Ive photographed special collections for many great collectors. I specialize in making your collection shine! I’ve developed a very specific way of imaging to highlight the beauty of your coins. I use only the best lenses, cameras and lighting to make sure they are presented the best way they can be.

I actually went to school for photography and have an A.A. degree in commercial photography. Most numismatic photographers in this industry do photography as a hobby. I do it as a career always have. I started photographing coins for Superior Galleries in 1982. Starting out in B&W and using polaroids. When the development of digital photography began we were at the forefront of the digital age and digital photography in general. I started to experiment with shooting coins and lighting. I have developed over many years a recipe that has consistently good results in obtaining the proper toning and that doesn’t overshadow the coin in general. The photography of coins is extremely subjective and there are critics that don’t like my images. But, there are far more that do like the way I image coins. I left Superior in 2000 and went to work for the former owners of Superior, Ira & Larry Goldberg. There I further developed my skills and while still experimenting with different lighting combinations, cameras, lenses etc… I began to really nail down what worked and what didn’t or in many cases just knowing how the coin reacts to how Im photographing it.

What clients say about me

Thank you for the four terrific auctions of my U.S. Large Cents!

The results we both beyond my expectations and my hopes. Your creation of my catalogs was fundamental to the success of the sales. Many thanks for your hard work. Dan Holmes The Dan Holmes Collection of Large Cents

A significant part of the success was, in my opinion, the outstanding esthetics of the catalog.

You were responsible for so much of the catalog…photographs and the artistry of the layout that I wanted to thank you again for your major contribution. R. Tettenhourse (Missouri Cabinet Collection)
